Dean - Professor Sean Carrington

Sciences have been taught at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies from its inception in 1963. The Faculty has a proud history, having evolved from the Faculty of Natural Sciences which commenced teaching at Mona, Jamaica, in 1949, and at St. Augustine, Trinidad, in 1964.

:: History of the Faculty ::

The Faculty began its existence in Barbados as the Division of Natural Sciences of the College of Arts & Sciences in 1963 at the Bridgetown Harbour site. Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics were taught as part of a four year general degree. The Division was led by chemist Robin Russell and included Sydney Martin (later Principal), Leslie Robinson, Melville Campbell and Eustace Taitt. The first group of Science students numbered just over twenty and there were just five scientists among the first graduands in 1966. Read More >>

ORAL EXAMINATIONS

Oral Examinations for finalists in Biological & Chemical Sciences will no longer be held on Friday January 11, 2008. The Department will contact students being offered an oral examination with the new date.
