Warwick-David Nicholls Doctoral Scholarship in Caribbean Studies
The David Nicholls Memorial Trust and the University of Warwick are jointly offering a three year scholarship to undertake research for a MPhil/PhD at the University of Warwick from October 2008.
Applications are invited to undertake doctoral research in any field of Caribbean Studies, including the Caribbean diaspora and any language/language area of the Caribbean region, and within the broad disciplines of political or social sciences or the humanities. Students may study in any of the departments, schools or centres of the University of Warwick at which supervision for their chosen topic is available (for details, see http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/insite )
Applications are particularly invited from students with an interest in the areas of study most closely associated with David Nicholls’ scholarship and work. Further details of these are available at http://www.dnmt.org.uk/dnmt/index.php
Award holders will receive a maintenance grant at the equivalent rate to that provided in the UK by the Economic and Social Research Council (£12,940 in 2008/9) and the payment of full academic fees over the normal three years during which they will be expected to be registered full-time at the University of Warwick.
Award holders will also be able to apply separately to the David Nicholls Memorial Trust for a travel award to facilitate fieldwork in the Caribbean should this be necessary. Applicants should complete an application form, which is available from Jocasta Gardner, Graduate School, University of Warwick, Coventry CV4 7AL (J.H.Gardner@warwick.ac.uk <mailto:J.H.Gardner@warwick.ac.uk>) as well as the normal application for study for a postgraduate research degree at the University of Warwick, which is available to be completed on-line at http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/apply/

CENTRE FOR STUDIES IN SOCIAL SCIENCES, CALCUTTA
Research Training Programme 2008-2009
The Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta, invites applications for its Research Training Programme in History, Economics, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, Social Anthropology, Development Studies and Cultural Studies. The programme which will run from August 2008 to June 2009 is meant for research students in India and the countries of the South in the early stages of their doctoral work.
Applications are invited from research students below the age of 30 years with a post-graduate degree in any branch of humanities and the social sciences with at least 50% marks or B+ on an eight point scale.
