Philosophy of Language - PH38D
Semester 2, 2003/4
Materials for the course can be found from the Schedule page. See also the tutorial discussion topics below. We meet in the Conference Room upstairs in the Outreach Building, at 5-6pm on Mondays (starting Feb. 2nd) and from 6-8 pm on Tuesdays (starting January 20). When we have tutorial sessions, they will occupy the first hour on Tuesday.
Tutorial/seminars
Most weeks we shall use a particular text as a basis for discussion. Topics are given on the same page as the lecture schedule above. They constitute a thread more closely connected with linguistics than the main lecture sequence.
Assessment for the Course
How will you be assessed? The exam will count for 60%. A revised version of your tutorial presentation will constitute the coursework, worth 40%; it will be due in by the 23rd April.
A brief guide to writing philosophy essays (by Ronald Hepburn, courtesy of the Edinburgh Philosophy Department's website - this copy is on our server).
On this page there will be a selection of links to material elsewhere that you might find useful for this course.
