Within recent years a number of exotic pests and diseases have been introduced into St. Kitts and Nevis and the potential risks of further introductions are exceedingly great. These pests and diseases have affected agricultural production and impacted negatively on trade in the agricultural sector. Considerable human and financial resources have also been channeled to achieve sustainable management of these problems and protect indigenous plant life and agriculture. In order to facilitate effective trade in a liberalized environment, there is need to accelerate the upgrade of the Agriculture Health System in St. Kitts and Nevis. Mechanisms must also be put in place for compliance with the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures of various trade agreements
