CONTENTS
This preliminary listing, which was prepared for the first in a series of Country Conferences planned for the Non-Campus Territories by the University of the West Indies School of Continuing Studies, is the result of the cooperation of various regional institutions. The libraries and documentation centres at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) in St. Kitts, the Island Resources Foundation (IRF) in St. Thomas, USVI, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States in St. Lucia (OECS INFONET) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC) in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago made their records available for inclusion in this bibliography on St. Kitts and Nevis. The majority of the records are understandably from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica (UWIMONA).
An effort was made to exclude from among the 122 records listed, any that had already appeared in the major bibliographical work for St. Kitts and Nevis which was published in 1995 as Volume 174 in the World Bibliographical Series. St Kitts-Nevis, compiled by Verna Penn Moll (Oxford: ABC-CLIO Ltd, 1995), provides 565 annotated entries to works dealing with the island’s history, geography, economy and politics, people, culture, customs, religion and social organization. A quick analysis of the entries indicates that just under 22% are for the 1990s while the other approximately 78% cover the pre-1990s.
There are a few similar titles in this Preliminary Listing, but a decision was made to include them because there were differences in the full bibliographic records. Since this is a work in progress, the understanding is that errors if any, will be identified and corrected after actual physical inspection of all documents. Unfortunately, time constraints made it difficult to inspect items not held by the University Library for this first draft. It is also anticipated that this work will encourage the submission of information on other material which should be included in the final work.
SCOPE
The bibliography includes theses, some journal articles, government publications, chapters in books, conference proceedings and published works providing information on the twin island. No works of fiction or bibliographies are included and again these omissions will be addressed as work on the St. Kitts and Nevis Bibliography 1990 – 2000 progresses. Websites providing information on St. Kitts and Nevis have also been listed.
METHODOLOGY
Citations were selected from various databases as indicated above as well as from the websites of online bookshops. Many of the titles from the University Library collection were inspected while those already on databases with subject headings and annotations were not.
Subject headings and annotations are provided as far as possible, to assist the researcher in understanding what the items cover. A few entries are without annotations and again because they are not part of the University collection they could not be inspected. The title and the subject headings however provide some indication of what is covered. There were some titles that had to be excluded because they carried neither annotations nor subject headings.
ARRANGEMENT
The entries are numbered and listed alphabetically by title. Location codes and call numbers, as provided by the various participating libraries and documentation centres, are included to assist the researcher in requesting material of interest. The websites for materials which can be purchased are also provided where appropriate. Where material is held in more than one collection the order in which the location codes are entered corresponds with the call number information provided. The first call number entered is to be linked with the first location code given for that record, the second number with the second code and so on.
The main title listing is followed by an alphabetical subject index to all entries. There is also an alphabetically arranged author index which guides the user back to the main title entry. Lists are also included for journals and publishers cited in the Bibliography. However, no address information is provided for the publishers in this draft listing.
LOCATION CODES AND SOURCES OF MATERIAL
Below are the codes used for the various collections where material is held. Addresses are provided to facilitate the researcher contacting the institution.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The kind cooperation of colleagues at the University Library and at the various regional institutions cited above made this work possible and this assistance was very much appreciated. Records were also received from Mrs. Delnora Baley at the St. Kitts Public Library. These will be added to the ongoing database.
