The Tertiary Level Institutions' Unit (TLIU)

The TLIU exists to facilitate the University's links with other tertiary level institutions in the region, and to assist those institutions in their own development.

At present various kinds of link exist:

• Affiliation, an arrangement set up under the University's Ordinances where a TLI teaches a UWI degree in a specialist area (not usually available on campus).  The terms of this type of arrangement are currently under review.
• Quasi-affiliation, a similar situation but without the formality of a special ordinance.
• Joint programming, where qualifications are offered by the UWI together with one or more other institutions.
• Franchising, where a TLI teaches part or all of a UWI qualification.
• Articulation, where successful students from a TLI can enter some UWI programmes with advanced standing.

In many other cases, particular qualifications awarded by TLIs in the Caribbean are accepted as equivalent to 'A' or 'O' levels or CXC qualifications for matriculation purposes.

The TLIU is actively involved with several proposals for new or extended links with institutions in the region.

At the moment the TLIU is based at Cave Hill, and has an office at Mona.
