Important Student Information

Please find below important information relating to parking, fees, finding your way around campus, counselling, immigration requirements and orientation. For more details please go to the Registration Handbooks page.

Parking
The Traffic Regulations for the Campus are being reviewed with the assistance of the Ministry of Public Works, Barbados. In the meantime, ALL students are asked to note that as a result of the large increase in the number of students attending the University with cars, we are unable to guarantee parking for all cars being driven by Students on the Campus. You are therefore asked to take this into account in your transportation plans.

Parking in the areas designated for this purpose will continue to be free.

The Campus can be reached from the Cheapside Bus Stand by Minibus; by the Bus Service provided by the Transport Board; and by the Campus bus at scheduled times that will be published on the various Students’ Notice Boards.

We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Fees
Students may pay fees for the entire year or by semester. Students should first select their courses through online registration in CHOL, which will generate a bill of fees payable based on your registration. Fees can be paid on Campus, at any branch of the Barbados National Bank or through the bank of Nova Scotia or RBC Bank of Canada online payment system.

A UWI student ID number is required for fee payment.

Students can view their account balances by following these steps after logging into CHOL:

  • Click on Student & Financial Aid
  • Then click on Student Records
  • In the menu that appears, students can view their account balance information in a summary by term by clicking on Account Summary by Term. Alternatively, an overall summary can be displayed by clicking on Account Summary.

N.B.: Students are required to settle their accounts at the time of registration and no later than September 12, 2008. Students will not be allowed to write examinations for courses for which they are not registered.

For a list of fees for Undergraduate Students, please go to Undergraduate Fees for 2008/2009 page.

Finding your way around Campus
This may be quite challenging at first. Feel free to use the Campus Map(PDF) for a general Campus layout and our Campus Room and Building Index (PDF) for a translation of the classroom abbreviations that appear in the timetables online.

Academic Counselling
All new students must receive academic counselling prior to registering. For required counselling, new students are asked to go to the designated Counsellors specified for your faculty.

Continuing students should arrange with the Academic Advisor assigned to them a convenient time to meet to discuss their progress and intended registration for the new academic year. It is important for students to make use of the services of their academic advisor to ensure a trouble-free registration period.

Immigration Requirements
Non-Barbadian students are required to obtain a student's visa. The visa is granted for one year on completion of a Certificate of Eligibility (H-1 and H-2 forms) from the University and is renewable on completion of a Non-Immigration Notice and Report Form (H3). To comply with the immigration requirements new students must submit the completed application forms (H-1 and H-2) and continuing students the H-3 form along with
