Charles Fruehling Springwood is a professor of anthropology at Illinois Wesleyan University who has written widely on sport, play, tourism, race, and power. He has authored and edited several books including, Beyond the Cheers: Race as Spectacle in College Sport, Cooperstown to Dyersville: A Geography of Baseball Nostalgia, Open Fire: Global Gun Cultures, and Team Spirits: The Native American Mascots Controversy (named CHOICE 2001 Outstanding Academic Title). He has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Sport and Social Issues and Pan Japan: The International Journal of the Japanese Diaspora.
