Professor Brian Stoddart is a former President of La Trobe University in Australia, and is recognised as an international pioneer into the study of sports culture. A foundation member of the Centre for Sports Studies at the University of Canberra in Australia and connected with the Australian Institute of Sport, he has written several books covering history, sociology, management and politics of sport across several cultures. His Saturday Afternoon Fever: Sport in the Australian Culture is still considered a benchmark in the field, while his most recent book Sport, Culture and History: Region, Nation and Globe accounts for how he came to write some of his most important essays. He is an authority on Caribbean cricket and culture having co-edited with Sir Hilary Beckles Liberation Cricket: Caribbean Cricket Culture. He currently serves as the Australian federal government's social science expert on the the national Anti-Doping Research Panel, and also writes on a range of subjects for international media outlets. In addition to his writings, he now also works as a consultant on higher education strategic development for projects funded by the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and other international agencies.
