Building Creative Little Scientists
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Barbados, the Faculty has embarked on a programme to look at ways of improving the teaching and learning of science and mathematics at the Primary School level.
Our initial focus is the creation and implementation of a programme that enables Primary Schools to develop their own science and technology resources without the need for a radical expansion in financing. The programme consists of two main parts: Content and Facilities.
- Content: This part is ongoing and is focused on carrying out research in the area of teacher preparedness for teaching Science at Primary Schools, as well as hosting training sessions for teachers in the area of Science.
- Facilities: Focuses on the development of Creative Spaces. A creative space is an area where anyone can experience, explore and demonstrate the concepts of science. These spaces can apply to any level of science, from general science for the public to complicated science concepts at the tertiary level.
Our goal is the creation of education spaces that utilize low cost, sustainable, reusable tools to teach science principles. This approach is ideally suited to small island states where funding is limited.
