Cave Hill Campus Sport Scholarship

The purpose of the Award is to increase access to higher education for Caribbean nationals who show particular promise in a sporting discipline.  It shall be tenable at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados.
 
Eligibility & Field of Study

The Award shall be open to nationals of the Caribbean Community who:
 
1.

 
Have gained admission, or qualified for admission for full-time study at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus to read for a three or four-year degree undergraduate programme in any discipline offered at the Campus or to full time graduate studies in any academic field (funding will not be available to persons enrolled in self-financing programmes).
2.

 
Have demonstrated an exceptional capacity for a high level of performance in a sports discipline; as verified by the Head, Academy of Sport.
 
Duration

An award  at undergraduate level shall be for a period of up to four years and up to two years at postgraduate level.
 
Value

The value of the Scholarship shall be as follows:
 
1.

 
A full scholarship equal to the value of the economic cost, amenities and tuition fees applicable to the Cave Hill Campus at the time of the Award as well as other maintenance and incidental expenses as stipulated by the University. A total of ten (10) such awards will be available annually;
2.

 
The value of maintenance and incidental expenses as stipulated by the University. For the time being the value shall be BDS $6,000.00 per annum to be disbursed in two semester allotments.
 
Tenure 

The retention of the Scholarship shall be subject to annual reports of good conduct and satisfactory academic progress with a minimum GPA of at least 2.5.  The awardee is also expected to maintain quality performance in the sporting discipline to be certified by the Head, Academy of Sport.
 
The Scholarship may be withdrawn at the discretion of the Principal on the recommendation of the Campus Undergraduates Awards Committee if the student fails to maintain the necessary standards stated above.

In addition, the Scholarship will be suspended if an awardee is selected by the West Indies Cricket Board for the West Indies Cricket team.
 
Advertisement & Selection

The availability of the Scholarship shall be suitably advertised by the University of the West Indies.
 
Selection of candidates for the Scholarship shall be on the basis of performance in the sporting discipline, as assessed by the Head, Academy of Sport, together with evidence of capacity to complete the course of study.  Evidence of financial need may also be considered by the Committee.
 
The Campus Undergraduate Scholarship Committee shall submit a shortlist of ten (10) candidates recommended for the Scholarship to the Principal for final approval of the candidate for the Scholarship.
 
Financial Procedure

The University will make disbursements to the scholarship holder in two semester allotments, after deduction of relevant fees and charges payable to the University. Grants will be payable on a Semester basis.
 
Apply

Applications for the Cave Hill Campus Sport Scholarship are accepted during the second semester of each academic year. This period usually falls between January and May. Interested persons can apply here.
