The Arts Lecture Theatre in the Faculty of Humanities and Education has been renamed in honour of Caribbean cultural icon, Dr. Cynthia Wilson. The ceremony was held on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Arts Lecture Theatre.

Deputy Principal of The UWI Cave Hill, Clive Landis, lauded Wilson’s five-decade long contribution to the arts through theatre, dance and literature, and expressed The UWI’s pleasure to honour her legacy.

“It is entirely appropriate that future students in the Faculty of Humanities and Education should be able to draw inspiration every time they take lessons in this room from such a legendary figure in the creative arts, who helped shape the cultural landscape of Barbados and the Caribbean,” he said during remarks.

Jacqui Wiltshire-Gay, who spoke on behalf of Wilson, expressed gratitude to The UWI for the recognition. “I thank you for even thinking of me worthy of such a tremendous honour,” she said. “Please be assured that I tried with all I had and with every effort to use my work for the unification and integration of the Caribbean.”
