The Cave Hill Campus is situated on the island of Barbados, a location known for being one of the most family-friendly destinations in the Caribbean with a relatively low crime rate. A spirit of collegiality pervades the campus which maintains high academic standards in a safe and friendly learning community where students feel like members of a family.
Integrating information and communications technology to enhance operations and the student experience, is the foundation for the ongoing SMART Campus transformation at the Cave Hill Campus.
Members of the UWI have won the Nobel Prize in Economics and Literature and for work on Climate Change. A major priority at The UWI Cave Hill is developing our research capacity and output in areas of critical importance to the Caribbean and international community. It maintains partnerships in teaching and research with many leading institutions around the world. The Campus features several research units and centres across its various faculties, as well as within its libraries.
The UWI Cave Hill is often lauded for its diverse and inclusive student population. The campus not only welcomes students from the wider Caribbean region, but it has opened its doors to students from around the world. It is also home to an outstanding cadre of international faculty. Student centredness is one of the six core values of the university and student involvement in the administration of university affairs is strongly encouraged.
Committed to ensuring a sustainable future for the region, Cave Hill continues to make a positive environmental impact by expanding its green footprint. The Campus has adopted a number of energy and resource conservation technologies to ensure sustainability of our greening initiatives. These include use of solar panels to power buildings, installation of charging stations for electric cars and photovoltaic wind/hybrid systems at which students can charge their cell phones and laptops while taking in the beauty of the outdoors.
The UWI extended it's reach into the community of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean with the establishment of a College of Arts and Sciences, opened on October 12, 1963.
