Project Overview
The StewardFish project aims to empower fisherfolk throughout fisheries value chains to engage in resource management, decision making processes and sustainable livelihoods with strengthened institutional support at all levels.
Four core project components
- Developing organisational capacity for fisheries governance
- Enhancing ecosystem stewardship for fisheries sustainability
- Securing sustainable livelihoods for food and nutrition security
- Project management, monitoring and evaluation and communication
The Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES) will implement some activities under components 1, 2 and 4 of the StewardFish project in partnership with other organisations participating in the StewardFish project.

The StewardFish project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and executed by the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI), Caribbean Network of Fisherfolk Organisations (CNFO), Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM), Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies of the University of the West Indies (UWI-CERMES), Caribbean ICT Research Programme (UWI-CIRP), Western Central Atlantic Fisheries Commission (WECAFC) and Fisheries Division(s) of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, and Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
