Celebrating staff, colleagues and partners on International Day of Women and Girls in Science
One of CERMES first activities focused on gender and youth was to recognise our staff, colleagues and partners on International Day of Women and Girls in Science which was celebrated on 11 February 2022. CERMES has always had a number of outstanding women working in fisheries science, and especially in small-scale fisheries. This includes the staff and students whose contributions feature regularly in CERMES Connections, on our website and via our social media

Webinar: Is Social Justice Just for Women in Fisheries?
CERMES in collaboration with the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) hosted the webinar, ‘Is Social Justice Just for Women in Fisheries?’ on 7 March 2022 to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD). The webinar brought together professionals to share their perspectives on this theme.
Virtual Seminar on Small Scale Fisheries in the Member States of the Organisation of African Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS)
IYAFA WECAFC Champion, Dr. Patrick McConney spoke on ‘Regional policy actions and lessons learned for strengthening small-scale fisheries food systems: a Caribbean view’. He shared the complexity and diversity of the regional fisheries policy and its protocol, incorporating the small-scale fisheries guidelines, regional initiatives and lessons learned.
Other Activities
FAO-UWI course – Addressing the climate change and poverty nexus
UWI [CERMES on behalf of The Global Institute for Climate Smart and Resilient Development (GICSRD)] has co-developed with FAO, and will be jointly offering, the online course ’Addressing the climate-change and poverty nexus: an introduction to climate-poverty interactions and entry points for addressing them’—from May 2nd to June 30th, 2022. Participation in this special edition course is by invitation.
