Apply to do an exciting BSc. Degree with a
Major or Minor in Microbiology at the Cave Hill Campus in Barbados.
What Will I Study?
You will discover:
- that microbial life has an amazing diversity
- the structure and function of microbial cells
- the importance of the roles of microorganisms in ecology, including pathogenesis
- the significance of microorganisms in food, agriculture, pharmaceutical, and diagnostic industries
You will explore and practice techniques in microbiology, e.g., microbiological, biochemical and molecular techniques used for the identification and characterization of microorganisms

Research
Our Faculty does research in all areas of Microbiology. A few focus areas include:
- Evaluation of microbiological quality of food and water
- Characterization of biologically active compounds and industrially-important enzymes from marine microorganisms
- Optimization of biogenic methane production from agricultural residues
- Monitoring of antibiotic resistant bacteria
- Sustainable management of industrial and municipal and seaweed wastes using molecular microbiological approaches.
