The Plants of the Eastern Caribbean online database was initiated by Sean Carrington, Professor of Plant Biology at the Cave Hill Campus of The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Barbados, who contributed most of the original plant photographs.

Kareem Sabir, a Biology graduate of the UWI, was responsible for data entry and assisted with collection and photographing of plants in Barbados, Dominica and the Grenadines. Damian Greaves, Senior Technician, has continued with updating the database and scanning of specimens for the virtual herbarium.

Raymond Broome, a graduate in Computer Sciences of the UWI, constructed the database and website with some assistance from Dr. Colin Depradine.

Dr. Pedro Acevedo Rodriguez of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, USA, has collaborated by confirming the identities of plant specimens collected as part of the project, duplicates of which are lodged at the Smithsonian.
