How to Apply



Applying For Full Degree and Diploma Programmes

International students applying for full degree or diploma programmes do so via the online portal like all other applicants.

The information below is relevant only to applicants for the Student Exchange Programme.
 

Applying For the Student Exchange Programme

If you are a student at one of The UWI Cave Hill Campus’ partner institutions and wish to come to Cave Hill on Exchange, there are 3 easy steps that you must complete:
 
  1. Contact Your Home Institution: Please click here to see a list of our Partner institutions. Your application must be forwarded to the Cave Hill Campus' International Office by your home institution.
  2. Submit Application Form: You must next complete the UWI Cave Hill exchange application form (at both the undergraduate and graduate levels). These forms are then submitted to the Cave Hill International Office by the student's home institution by the deadlines listed below.
  3. Submit your official transcript: Your home institution must submit your official transcript along with your application form directly to the International Office at the Cave Hill Campus.

Things to Note:
  • The UWI Cave Hill offers exchanges to students during semester I (Fall) and/or semester II (Winter) only. Summer School IS NOT a part of the exchange programme.
  • When filling out forms related to your exchange, students should use the email address that they check most regularly, since email is our primary means of communicating with students.
English Language Requirement
  • International students coming to UWI Cave Hill are required to have a sufficient command of the English language.  If your first language is not English, you are required to furnish satisfactory evidence that your competency in English is adequate. As a guideline, these TOEFL scores provide a good indication of the level of English needed to study at UWI-Cave Hill. Typically, an official TOEFL score or a letter from your home university indicating appropriate language proficiency will provide adequate proof.
         YOU MAY PRESENT EITHER:
  • The Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) – A mark of 500 on the paper-based test (82* internet-based) in the TOEFL test for foreign students will be accepted as equivalent to, and in place of, an acceptable CSEC (CXC) pass in English (A) From applicants whose native language is not English.

    TOEFL Computer-Based Breakdown –
    A minimum writing score of                    22
    A minimum reading score of                  20
    A minimum listening score of                 20
    A minimum speaking score of                20
    OR

    A certificate showing a minimum total score of 6.5 on the University of Cambridge IELTS (International English Language Testing System).

Disability Services
  • If a student requires disability services, they should indicate what kind of assistance they require when they submit their application form.


Application Forms and Due Dates:

  • Undergraduate and Graduate Exchange Application Deadline: April 15
  • On-Campus Housing Application: These are to be completed and submitted with your application and should be received by the date indicated above. The forms are processed by the Halls Administration Office.  The International Office cannot guarantee processing times  nor allocation of a place on the Halls.  The Halls Administration will contact students directly with their final decisions.

AFTER RECEIVING YOUR ADMISSIONS PACKAGE
After The UWI Cave Hill Campus reviews the application and supporting documentation, accepted students will be issued an admission package. This package will include the forms that are required to apply for the student visa. Students starting their exchange in September, can expect to receive their admission package by June.  After you receive your admisions package you should makre arrangements to return the acceptance documentation by the deadlines indciated in your letter. This includes the submission of your original student visa forms by mail to the International Office along with the supporting documentation. Students should check the Barbados Immigration website to determine whether they will also require a vistor's visa to enter Barbados.

Please Note: It is a student’s responsibility to comply with all Barbadian immigration requirements and to process the necessary documents for travel to Barbados.

REGISTRATION FOR COURSES: Information about UWI Cave Hill’s courses and areas of study can be found at http://helios1.cavehill.uwi.edu:9011/kronos1_prodch/bwckschd.p_disp_dyn_sched. Some courses have pre-requisites and students should ensure that they possess the required pre-requisites before attempting to complete their registration. Be sure to note any pre-requisite restrictions before enrollment. You will be able to enroll in your courses after receiving confirmation from the International Office at The UWI Cave Hill. 

 

After Your Exchange

Transcripts

At the end of a student’s exchange period, the International Office will send the original transcripts to the partner institution. Students are required to make their own arrangements if they would like a personal copy of their transcript. Transcripts cannot be issued if a student owes fees to UWI Cave Hill.

The University of the West Indies transcripts show final official grades for courses taken. This grade is a letter grade only. If the home institution requires students to have number grades and break downs of course work, the student must make a request to the  Assistant Registrar, Examinations Office (examinations@cavehill.uwi.edu ) prior to departure from the campus.
