The Canada Caribbean Institute (CCI) congratulates the Governments of Canada and CARICOM Member States for their recent efforts to advance mutual relations and development.  The April 1 meeting of Foreign Ministers saw a discussion focused on strengthened collaboration on security, multilateral cooperation, and building a sustainable #COVID19 recovery.  The Ministers also called for the establishment of a joint commission to serve as a permanent mechanism that will formally deepen the partnership while advancing collaboration and cooperation. This will be launched by Leaders at the inaugural Canada-CARICOM Summit in the coming months.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have been ‘walking the talk’ on several blue economy-related initiatives since the two entities joined forces in 2019 to drive climate change solutions for the Caribbean.

The following statement is issued by Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies, on the passing of His Excellency Ambassador Vance W. Amory former Premier of Nevis and Government Minister in St. Kitts and Nevis, and alumnus of The UWI.

Colleague scientists and co-workers among many others are remembering late lecturer in climate change Dr. Hugh Sealy as an international icon in climate change matters, a consummate and tireless advocate, a cherished associate and a remarkable scholar who epitomized the academic refrain of local action, global impact. He died on Friday, March 18 at age 59. Tributes have already been led by Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley and The University of the West Indies leadership. 

The new Chair of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Steering Committee and Head of the Digital Transformation Strategic Initiative, Professor Lloyd Waller, has published his latest book, ‘Digital Transformation for Higher Education Institutions: A Framework for the Future’.
