Relief supplies shipped to St Vincent

Donations on behalf of the institution
The first shipment of relief supplies donated to the Cave Hill Campus is on its way to residents of St Vincent and the Grenadines who were displaced by the eruption of the La Soufrière volcano earlier this month.
The campus launched an appeal for assistance last week, and on Monday the first truckload of items was taken to the Barbados Coast Guard for shipment to Kingstown. The joint staff and students’ initiative saw student volunteers accepting the donations on behalf of the institution.
President of the Guild of Students, Thacher Loutin, said items received included baby diapers, personal care products, men’s and babies’ clothing, cleaning supplies, non-perishable food, and water. She added that the donors have been very generous with their offerings so far. “We received over 100 cases of water. The water was our biggest donation and it was really needed. Apart from that we had the different halls of residence – Frank Worrell Hall, Keith Hunte Hall, the Sherlock Hall, making donations as well.
“The Frank Worrell Hall actually donated one barrel … and of course we can’t leave out the Guild of Students who donated over 25 cases of soft drinks and Minute Maid as well,” she said. Loutin said they are still accepting donations, and urged donors to drop off their items at the collection point located at the Leslie Robinson building.
An account has also been opened at RBC Royal Bank (Barbados) Ltd, for those who wish to make monetary donations. The account number is 09415-2701043.
