Statement from The University of the West Indies on Russia’s Military Invasion of Ukraine
01 March 2022
The University of the West Indies is globally known for its commitment to academic excellence, as well as its commitment to ethical conduct and social justice. In this regard, it rejects political actions that are rooted in militarism, disrespect for the sovereignty of legitimate nations, and impatience with the lasting power of conciliatory diplomacy.
The University of the West Indies, therefore, joins with its CARICOM community, and the global network of like-minded universities, in calling upon the Russian Federation to withdraw from the theatre of war in Ukraine and enter the door of diplomacy. Commitment to saving lives and respecting the sovereignty of the Ukrainian people must be held aloft!
