About the Programme

The MSc.Sport Sciences is the first of its kind in the University of the West Indies. The Mona Campus offers Sport Medicine and MSc. Sport and Exercise Medicine; and the St. Augustine Campus offers a BSc. in Sport Management. This sport sciences programme is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of a range of sport sciences related subject areas. It utilizes international best practices to ensure that students successfully exiting the degree programme would be capable of applying a range of best practice analytical, practical and strategic skills to enhance sport development or programming. Additionally, it is intended to enhance graduates’ career profiles and employment opportunities.

What Will I Study?

This programme is designed to achieve the following:

  • Expose students to an interdisciplinary appreciation of the knowledge field of sports, combining sports science with sport and recreational management, physiology, pyschology, nutrition and biomechanics.
  • Provide students with the research and analytical skills to assist with the administration, design, monitoring and implementation of a sports programme.
  • Expose students to best practices in sport sciences and sports management.
  • Provide opportunities for practical experience across the sub-fields of sport.

For entry to the Post Graduate Diploma and Sport Sciences programmes, please note the following.

  • Applicants should have a first degree from an approved educational institution, at minimum of a second-class honours.
  • For applicants without a first degree, they should possess an associate degree or diploma, from an approved educational institution. Additionally, applicants should have at least 3 years experience in a sporting institution or organization that offers sport as a curriculum activity (e.g. schools, colleges or universities), which must be at the level of manager or senior supervisor.
  • In general, applicants for entry into the programme may have to undergo an interview before final selection.

Post graduate diploma students on successful completion of the program may be considered for entry into the MSc. Sport Sciences programme.
