Undergraduate Scholarships

Scholarship Applications 2024/2025


Applications are open for the 2024/2025 academic year.  The following are general guidelines regarding Scholarships and Bursaries:
  • In order to be considered for any award, a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 is expected by most donors.  Some awards may require a higher GPA and a few may accept a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • The awards are available to full-time undergraduate students of The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus (unless otherwise stipulated).
  • The applicant should only apply for scholarships for which the prescribed criteria are met as indicated on each terms of the award.
  • The required status as indicated on each term of award is the academic year that the student will next be registered.  For example, if the criteria states "must be in Level II", the applicant is expected to be enrolled in Level I at the time of applying.

The Judge Sylvia Hinds-Radix TrailBlazer Scholarship

Valued at BDS$3,000.00.  The scholarship is open to Level II and III students reading for the LLB programme, and has an interest in civil service and governmental law with a minimum GPA of 3.0.   Applicants must submit an essay, not exceeding 500 words, on their interest in civil and governmental law and how, through humanitarian acts, community service and outreach, they stand out amongst peers as a leader for uplifting the community.  Please submit the essay to scholarships@cavehill.uwi.edu.

The Grant Scholarships for Continued Learning and Development

Valued at BDS$2,500.00 per annum.  The scholarship is open to incoming students who are nationals of Barbados and who are pursuing full-time undergraduate studies in the B.Sc Sport Sciences at the Cave Hill Campus of The University of the West Indies and is tenable for three (3) academic years.  Applicants will have achieved at least an Associate Degree with a minimum GPA equivalent of a B or CAPE A levels at Grades 1 and 2.

 
 
interCaribbean Airways, The Manville "Donnie" Gardiner Memorial Annual Scholarships

The Manville "Donnie" Gardiner Memorial Annual Scholarship aims to support the development of future leaders in the Caribbean aviation industry to honour the memory of Mr Manville "Donnie" Gardiner, and create a strong talent pipeline for the Caribbean aviation industry.

Valued at BDS$5,000.00 each.  The five scholarships are open to nationals of any UWI contributing country who are continuing students that have completed Level II of the degree or at least 54 credits at The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus and are pursuing a major in the Faculty of Social Sciences in any of the following disciplines: Accounting, Banking, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Hospitality, International Relations, Management, Management with concentrations, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology or Tourism.  Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3.

As part of the application, a written narrative, ranging from 500-800 words, detailing the applicant's personal journey is required.  This narrative should provide insight into the endeavours and obstacles encountered on the path to, or journey while at The UWI.  Applicants are encouranged to share how they have overcome these obstacles - physical, mental or otherwise - and how these experiences have shaped current ambitions and future aspirations.

Scholarship recipients will get the chance to intern at interCaribbean Airways, providing them with practical experience, enhancing their skills, and increasing their employability post-graduation.

The Colette Delaney Scholarship for Students in Business Studies

This scholarship was established to allow promising, economically challenged young people across the Caribbean region to realise their dreams of pursuing studies in the field of Business at The University of the West Indies (UWI) campus of their choice.  

Valued at US$3,000.00 per annum.  The scholarship is open to incoming MALE students from any UWI Contributing Country that have satisfied the matriculation requirements and are registered in any of the following undergraduate degree programmes are eligible to apply for the scholarships:  Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance, Economics and Accounting, Economics and Management, Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship or equivalent programmes at respective Campuses.  Applicants will demonstrate an exceptional capacity for a high level of academic performance and will have achieved at least an Associate Degree with a minimum GPA equivalent of a B+ or CAPE A levels at Grades 1 and 2.

Faculty of Science and Technology Scholarships 2024/2025

Digicel Business Corey Goddard Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to honour the memory of Mr Corey Goddard. It aims to support the development of students in the Faculty of Science and Technology and create a strong talent pipeline across the Telecommunications Industry in Barbados.

Two (2) scholarships valued at BDS$2,500.00.  Open to nationals of Barbados who are continuing students that have completed Level I of the degree or at least 18 credits and are pursuing a major in the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) in any of the following disciplines: Computer Science, Information Technology or Software Engineering. 

The recipients of the scholarship will also receive a laptop, a mobile phone and will be provided with an opportunity to intern at Digicel (Barbados) Ltd. within the Digicel Business Department providing them with practical experience, enhancing their skills and increasing their employability post-graduation.
